Iren Warehouse
Irene’s warehouse is not the most attractive building, but she is still full of personality and style. A two storey midcentury brick factory built in 1963-64 and designed by architect Anthony Hayden. One of only a few in the particular style still standing , a heritage listed building that is of architectural and aesthetic significants to the City of Moreland. She sure has a lot going for her, like the cover of a book giving the outsider an idea of the goings on beneath the exterior. Passing by the building it is impossible to ignore, with large patina metal lettering (now collectable) spelling out the words Irene lingerie, tell what the buildings use was in the past. Now reading like a public street exhibition, the thoughtfully placed amazing graffiti on the facade got my imagination thinking about its current day usage. l discovered that today Irene’s warehouse is a bustling community hub, with 40 plus studio spaces available, in a green and sustainable spirited environment for the purpose of giving talented local artist a place in which to thrive and create. One such artist Marko Maglaic gave me a tour of the warehouse. A real urban interior.
Irene’s Warehouse has facilities for circus / acro training, theatre and production, recording and rehearsal, communal work shop, dark room and private lock up studio’s for any type of artist.
